The Background to Flour

More about history, technology and culture

When was the first steam mill? In which country are people said to be “as good as bread”? And what is a “Kleiekotzer”? There are so many interesting questions about flour! Here you will find a wealth of information and entertaining stories from the fields of history, technology and culture. Read on – and enjoy yourself!

By the way: a Kleiekotzer – literally a “bran puker” – was a gargoyle-like mask found in old corn mills that “puked” the separated bran out of its mouth. In the last room of the FlourWorld Museum you will find an example artistically carved out of wood.
